I made this pattern for my baby girl to grow up with and into. A smaller hood could be worked up by reducing the initial chain length, so it can have a fit for even smaller heads, but I know as a child I liked big hoods. It’s large enough still to be a cozy cloak worn in the house in the winter. I hope she has this blanket for many years to come.
You will want to make sure that your double and treble crochets are all puffing out in one direction. They should naturally push out facing the side facing away from you, so if you ever notice one row is on the wrong side, check that you did the row of single crochets after each bubble row.
